Volvo EX60 Unveiled: Get a First Look at Volvo's Answer to the Model Y

Built upon an innovative 800V platform, the EX60 is expected to be Volvo’s top-selling electric vehicle.

  • Volvo gave a preview of the forthcoming EX60 mid-sized electric SUV.
  • The upcoming electric vehicle will utilize the SPA3 platform.
  • It will use an 800-volt battery pack, enabling faster charging times than a 400-volt system.

Despite toning down its ambitions of transitioning entirely to electric power by 2030, Volvo has not given up on its objective to introduce multiple electric vehicles before the end of this decade. Following the EX30 , EX90 and ES90 It’s time for the EX60 to make an appearance at the gathering later this year.

The mid-sized electric crossover briefly appeared at the unveiling event for the ES90 electric sedan earlier this week, though it wasn’t exactly unexpected news. In the video included below, neither the presenter nor the individual covering the EX60 seemed surprised or unprepared.

The Volvo EX60 will mark the Swedish manufacturer’s debut with the new SPA3 platform. This architectural design offers greater flexibility compared to the SPA2 platform used for the ES90 sedan and EX90 SUV, enabling the company to produce vehicles both smaller than the EX30 and larger than the EX90. A substantial decrease in costs is another key advantage of using the SPA3 architecture.

Thanks to an 800-volt high-voltage battery, charging times should also be better than average. The ES90, for instance, is advertised as being capable of adding up to 186 miles of range in just 10 minutes from a 350-kilowatt charger–we might see something similar in the EX60.

However, Volvo's new mid-sized electric vehicle isn't the final move in the company's strategy.
