Here you can review an overview of key developments related to Russia's war in Ukraine from Saturday, March 15.
Recap of Friday's developments
The EU expanded sanctions to include roughly another 2,400 Russian entities and individuals due to the conflict in Ukraine, aiming to exert greater pressure on Russia.
In contrast, Trump mentioned that his representative engaged in a "highly effective and fruitful" conversation with Putin, indicating that there was a "significant possibility" the "devastating and violent conflict" might be resolved shortly.
Trump said that Russian forces had completely surrounded Ukrainian troops and that Russia was advancing in Kursk. Trump urged Putin to "spare" the lives of Ukrainian soldiers.
Zelenskyy responded by stating that Putin wouldn’t halt the conflict voluntarily, yet “the power of America is sufficient to bring this about.”
In the meantime, Putin urged the Ukrainian troops stationed in the Kursk area to capitulate.

The UK's Prime Minister Keir Starmer plans to hold the coalition’s second gathering — which will be online — to address the ongoing situation in Russia's conflict with Ukraine. During this meeting, he intends to seek backing from members to ramp up the pressure on Russia, urging them to endorse a proposed 30-day truce.
The coalition primarily comprises European countries but also encompasses Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, along with representatives from NATO and the EU. This alliance came into existence following the significant confrontation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.
The relationship between Washington and Kyiv has somewhat strengthened as Trump tries to persuade Russia to accept a 30-day truce, which Ukraine has already consented to.
The conversation aims to assess how nations can assist Ukraine in areas such as military support and financial aid, as well as potentially discussing a future peacekeeping operation.
“If Russia ultimately joins the discussions, we need to prepare for overseeing a ceasefire to guarantee it leads to a genuine and lasting peace,” Starmer plans to address to the leaders, according to statements from his office released prior to the meeting.
“If not, we must exert every effort to increase economic pressure on Russia in order to achieve an end to this conflict,” he is set to declare today.
