Mumbai Airport Plans to Introduce Departure Fee for International Travelers

Mumbai (Maharashtra), India, March 18 (ANI): The Mumbai International Airport plans to levy a User Development Fee (UDF). UDF ) of Rs 325 for departing domestic passengers and Rs 650 for departing international travellers to enable it to undertake infrastructure development and technological enhancement projects at the airport.

On Tuesday, Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), which is part of Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) and manages Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), announced they are implementing a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing passenger facilities.

The statement also mentioned that a proposal has been presented to the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA).

According to the announcement, the Mumbai airport’s plan aims to counterbalance this shift and lessen its effect on travelers by concurrently decreasing airline landing and parking fees by approximately 35 percent.

This belief holds that the decrease should have a positive effect on airfare rates originating from Mumbai. It allows airlines to better control their expenses and sustain affordable ticket pricing to stay competitive.

The present Yield Per Passenger (YPP) for Mumbai Airport is set at Rs 285. The proposal sent to AERA seeks to adjust this figure to around Rs 332, which would be a rise of about 18%. This adjustment aligns with the Consultation Paper released by AERA on March 10, 2025.

In the coming five years, the Mumbai airport plans to spend Rs 10,000 crore on developing airport facilities and aims to generate a total income of Rs 7,600 crore from approximately 229 million travelers.

The Mumbai Airport has consistently dedicated itself to enhancing passenger comfort, boosting operational effectiveness, and ensuring the sustainable future of one of India’s iconic aviation centers.

The key projects encompass the Domestic-to-Domestic Transfer facility within Terminal 2, construction of Taxiway Z aimed at enhancing punctuality and promoting eco-friendly airport activities, the implementation of electronic gates to alleviate crowding upon entering the terminal, complimentary shuttles between terminals, and contactless parking via FASTags, along with several other traveler-focused improvements.
