Vietnam Airlines to Reopen Hanoi-Moscow Route in May After 3-Year Hiatus

Vietnam Airlines has declared that it will restart direct flights connecting Hanoi with Moscow beginning from May 8. These services will operate two times per week, specifically on Tuesdays and Thursdays, following a break of three years.

According to an official announcement made on Friday, the airline intends to increase its services to three flights per week by July 2026.

In March 2022, Vietnam Airlines halted operations of the flight between Hanoi and Moscow as a result of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Russia remains one of Vietnam’s key tourism markets. In 2024, passenger traffic between the two countries exceeded 220,000, a 2.3-fold increase from 2023. However, this figure accounts for only 26% of the pre-pandemic level recorded in 2019, according to VOV.

The non-stop flight from Hanoi to Moscow is anticipated to boost the revival of the tourism industry and also aid in enhancing commerce, investments, and cultural interactions between both countries.

This year, Vietnam Airlines intends to introduce or reinstate 15 international routes to major locations such as Italy, Russia, Denmark, China, India, Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.
