Tripura Celebrates: CM Honors Biplab Goswami for 'Laapataa Ladies' IIFA Triumph

Agartala (Tripura), India, March 14 (ANI): Scriptwriter Biplab Goswami, originally from Tripura, is enjoying the success following his notable victory at the IIFA 2025 Awards for "Laapataa Ladies." He had an audience with Chief Minister Manik Saha during a special event held on Friday, where he received recognition for this significant accomplishment.

Saha went on his X account to praise the writer who won an IIFA award for Best Original Story.

"Today, we honored the distinguished screenwriter from Tripura, Mr. Biplab Goswami, known for his outstanding contribution to 'Laapataa Ladies,' during a special ceremony. Having recently received the renowned IIFA Award, Mr. Goswami’s narrative skills continue to gain the recognition they deserve. His extraordinary ability serves as an inspiration, and I am confident that his career path will inspire upcoming writers throughout the region," he stated.

Upon winning, Biplab said to ANI, “This victory marks the beginning of my journey; I hail from Tripura where I spent my formative years. Subsequently, I ventured into studying cinema at the prestigious Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute located in West Bengal. Following my education, I stayed on and contributed significantly to the institute before moving to Mumbai, where I continue to work presently. These experiences have brought immense joy and fulfillment. Today, I feel incredibly honored as the government of Tripura along with ICA have recognized my efforts. The award will be bestowed upon me by the esteemed Honorable Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, making this a deeply gratifying experience for me. Being acknowledged here brings back many emotions since this is the land I call home. From a tender age, I harbored dreams of becoming a scriptwriter, director, and producer. To stand here now achieving those aspirations makes every moment worthwhile.”

The recent 25th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards took place over the past weekend in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The film 'Laapataa Ladies' dominated the ceremony, earning accolades for its emotional narrative and exceptional acting.

The movie, helmed by director Kiran Rao, received the prestigious Best Picture award, signifying a significant milestone for everyone involved.

Nitanshi Goel received the Best Actress award for her outstanding performance as Phool Kumari in 'Laapataa Ladies.'

Actor-turned-politician Ravi Kishan won the prize for Best Performance in a Supporting Role ( Male ) for his work in ' Laapataa Ladies '. Meanwhile, Pratibha Ranta received the accolade for Best Debut at the IIFA awards. ( ANI )
