Thailand Launches Clinical Trial for Groundbreaking Dengue Fever Vaccine

The Thai Public Health Ministry stated on Friday that they plan to initiate a clinical trial for a dengue fever vaccine aimed at children in Nakhon Phanom province starting next month.

sanctioned by the National Communicable Disease Committee, this research intends to evaluate the vaccine's effectiveness among 35,000 participants aged from 7 to 10 years old, irrespective of their history with dengue infection.

Dr. Panumas Yanawetsakul, Director-General of the Department of Disease Control (DDC), stated that the testing will take approximately three years, following which the vaccine could be incorporated into the nation's universal healthcare program.

Dr. Nakorn Premsri, who leads the National Vaccine Institute, pointed out that the vaccine, created by a Japanese firm and approved by the Thai FDA, is a live-attenuated variety akin to the measles shot.
