Thailand Cuts Visa-Free Stay Period in Half to Tackle Policy Abuse

Thailand intends to cut the visa-free stay period from 60 days to 30 days for visitors from qualifying nations with the objective of curbing abuse of the policy by those engaged in unlawful activities.

Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Sorawong Thienthong, stated that officials have preliminarily agreed to enforce the decrease, according to reports from The Nation. Bangkok Post .

This initiative applies to travelers from 93 countries and regions who presently enjoy visa-free access for tourist purposes.

According to the Khmer Times , even though the permitted stay can be as long as 60 days, tourists generally spend an average of about 21 days in Thailand.

This decision comes after the Association of Thai Travel Agents raised alarms about a growing issue where foreign individuals are working unlawfully in Thailand while claiming they are only visiting as tourists.
