A heavenly beach along the Amalfi Coast

As you cross the suspension bridge above the Fiordo di Furore, the rugged terrain of the Amalfi Coast reveals a stunning natural inlet. This petite 25-meter stretch of sand sits wedged between two towering cliffs, offering an unparalleled setting. The pristine turquoise water, combined with its seclusion and tranquil ambiance, makes it a favored destination in the area. However, do not let its serene appearance deceive you; the ocean here earned its name ‘Furore’—meaning fury—for good cause. During tempests, formidable waves crash forcefully against the cliff sides.

Not only does this place charm visitors with its natural allure, but it also captivates them with a bridge that arches over the gorge some 30 meters above the water level. Besides providing a stunning vista of the bay, each July hosts a diving contest where competitors plunge into the abyss from atop the bridge.

A key advantage of this cove is that the sun shines upon it only during the afternoon hours, allowing for a comfortable and enjoyable warmth even throughout the summertime. However, remember to pack your own bottled water since there are no refreshment stands available at the beach.

What is the way to reach Fiordo di Furore?

Reaching this idyllic cove may require some exertion, yet the payoff is thoroughly rewarding. Parking directly near the fjord isn’t an option, contributing to fewer visitors. It’s advisable to park your vehicle in Praiano, the closest village, then proceed on foot towards the bridge. Alternatively, you could use a scooter since they're permitted to be parked along the principal roadway. However, arriving by boat is highly recommended as numerous excursions allow you to discover the fjord from water level.

You can reach Fiordo di Furore using public transportation as well. The SITA buses stop at the fjord bridge. Should you be staying in Naples, board the bus heading toward Amalfi and switch to one going to Sorrento upon reaching the terminal. Alternatively, if your point of origin is Salerno, catch a bus bound for Amalfi. After alighting close to the bridge, simply descend via the steps to arrive at the cove below. Do keep in mind that this route may not accommodate those with disabilities or very small children because of the moderately steep stairway involved.
