The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has declared revised fuel rates set to take effect from Saturday, March 15 through Monday, April 14.

In Nairobi, petrol, diesel, and kerosene will be sold at KSh 176.58, KSh 167.06, and KSh 151.39, respectively.

"EPRA Director General Daniel Kiptoo announced that we have determined the highest permissible retail prices for petroleum products effective from March 15, 2025, through April 14, 2025. These price caps comply with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 andLegal Notice No. 192 of 2022. However, the maximum allowed pump prices for super petrol, diesel, and kerosene will stay the same," he said.

The state agency mentioned that the prices incorporated the updated excise duty rates along with a 16% Value Added Tax (VAT), as specified in the Finance Act of 2023 and the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act of 2024.

Between January and February 2025, EPRA reported that the average landing cost for imported premium gasoline increased by 1.34%. This change brought the price up from $628.80 (KSh 81,398.16) per cubic meter to $637.22 (KSh 82,488.13) per cubic meter.

The landing cost of kerosene decreased by 1.36%, dropping from $681.44 (KSh 88,212.41) per cubic meter to $672.14 (KSh 87,008.52) over the same timeframe. In contrast, the price for diesel increased by 1.41%, rising from $617.14 (KSh 79,888.77) per cubic meter to $680.23 (KSh 88,055.77).

Could fuel prices increase?

As reported elsewhere, EPRA conducted the Second Cost of Service Study for the Supply of Petroleum Products (COSSOP II).

The report proposed increasing the allowances provided to oil traders; however, EPRA maintained that this change would not affect the prices at the pumps.
