Dutch King Urges William Ruto: "Ensure Kenyans' Voices Are Heard" – A Message on Human Rights

Nairobi King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, who is presently undertaking a three-day official visit to Kenya, has highlighted the common goals between their countries regarding good governance, human rights, and accountability.

On Tuesday, March 18, the Dutch monarch addressed the significance of respecting citizens' rights and fostering an open conversation between governmental bodies during their speech.

"The people of Kenya, similar to those in the Netherlands, desire their rights as free citizens to be upheld and their opinions to be acknowledged. I am glad that our robust partnership enables us to concentrate on crucial matters including human rights, sound governance, and accountability during my visit," he declared.

He mentioned that afterward, he plans to interact with young Kenyans to gain insights into their views regarding recent changes.

William Ruto, Willem-Alexander sign MoUs

President William Ruto disclosed that Kenya and the Netherlands have entered into three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) along with a Letter of Intent aimed at strengthening cooperation across multiple domains such as agriculture, trade and investments, industrialization, tourism, climate initiatives, regional stability, and cultural exchanges.

"These accords will boost Dutch investment in Kenya, reinforce our transformation in agriculture and industry, and propel infrastructural development. This will expedite our economic growth and generate additional employment prospects for our young population," stated Ruto.

He additionally recognized the Netherlands as one of Kenya’s foremost trade allies in Europe, characterizing it as a consistent partner in development and a crucial collaborator in transforming the nation’s economy.

"We hold this partnership in high regard and pledge to enhance our connections, broaden economic prospects, and cultivate enduring collaborations that propel advancement in both countries," he further stated.

The accords were finalized during bilateral discussions conducted at State House in Nairobi, where President Ruto hosted King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima.

Subsequently, the leaders spoke to the press, restating their dedication to enhancing both diplomatic ties and economic cooperation between the two countries.
