Chevrolet has unveiled a new off-road-focused Silverado ZR2 EV Concept boasting an impressive 1,100 horsepower along with various upgrades designed to enhance its capability on rugged terrains. This extensively customized prototype serves as a preview for a less extreme off-roading variant—the Silverado EV Trail Boss—which will hit the market in several months. However, it remains uncertain whether a production model of the all-electric ZR2 will become available.
The Silverado ZR2 The vehicle appears to be a genuine off-road racer, making it fitting for Chevrolet to debut it at The Mint 400—an event known as one of America’s oldest off-road races. Developed within only half a year, the concept exudes readiness for action with its elevated suspension system, robust 37-inch all-terrain tires, and various performance upgrades.
The biggest alteration involves the inclusion of adaptive features. spool-valve dampers from Multimatic These components have performed exceptionally well in vehicles such as the GMC Sierra Silverado ZR2, Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, and Camaro Z/28. When combined with new springs, they provide the vehicle with 13 inches (33 centimeters) of ground clearance. Additionally, the Silverado ZR2 benefits from an enhanced tri-motor powertrain, increasing the output from 760 horsepower to 1,100 hp.
Chevy points out that 98% of the components utilized for constructing the ZR2 come from GM’s manufacturing parts. This implies that, hypothetically speaking, one could assemble their own ZR2 by obtaining these identical parts and fitting them onto another vehicle. Silverado EV .
Different locking differentials are included in the list of ZR2 upgrades; however, as this is an all-electric vehicle equipped with three motors, it can mimic the function of a differential lock even without one. This simulation would apply solely to the rear axle, whereas gasoline-powered ZR2 models come with locks at both ends, making it logical for them.
The Production Trail Boss version won’t be as aggressive as the ZR2, yet it will feature elevated suspension, distinctive 18-inch wheels paired with 35-inch all-terrain tires, along with identical red tow hooks visible at the front bumper. Chevrolet plans to provide extra Trail Boss-specific optional features; however, those details will remain undisclosed until the company unveils them nearer to the model’s scheduled release later this summer.
